Royal Deeside is 25 miles north of Blairgowrie along the A93 Snow Roads and National Tourist Route.
You pass through the dramatic mountain scenery of Glenshee with opportunities for both walking & mountain biking with useful touring information in well signed lay bys..
The first village of note is Braemar, home of the famous annual Royal Braemar Gathering and the Braemar Highland Heritage Centre, tellsing the history of the village. Nearby Braemar Castle is open at weekends throughout the season.
A few miles east from Braemar lies Balmoral Castle, which has been the Royal Family's holiday home since Victorian times. Part of the castle and the gardens are open to the public, although they are closed when the Royal Family is in residence. However, you can visit Crathie Church, where the Royal Family worship, and Royal Lochnagar Distillery.
You can return by the spectacular Cairn O' Mount road through Fettercairn and Edzell which joins the A90 Aberdeen - Perth Road.
