Cateran Country offers miles of peaceful cycle tracks that wind their way through forests, mountain trails, along river pathways, in hidden glens criss-crossing the countryside. You are in Scotland’s premier cycling country.
Without the noise of an engine to warn of your approach you are able to spot wildlife in close proximity. Buzzards, Ospreys and Red Kite soar above whilst deer, hare and a profusion of smaller bird life can be discovered at almost every turn.
Wherever you chose to base yourself in Cateran Country you can be certain you are soon off the beaten track and enjoying the freedom of the great Scottish outdoors. The sights, sounds and smells are best experienced from the saddle and the memories of treasured discoveries on meandering trails are to be taken home to be compared, enjoyed and remembered.
Cateran Country is ideal for those who want to explore tracks around Alyth Hill, parts of the Cateran Trail and Blackcraig Woods at Bridge of Cally on mountain bikes. The complex network of quiet roads in Eastern Perthshire, centred around Coupar Angus, represent a mecca for family and social cycling as witnessed by the ever increasing number of cyclists on these roads. The beauty and accessibility of this area for cyclists is, however, not widely known outside Eastern Perthshire.
Coupar Angus has established itself as the cycling hub in this region. The town hosts the annual Cateran Sportive which is an 80 mile cycle challenge and the premier road cycling event in Cateran Country. It was first launched in 2017 and attracted over 180 participants. If you are interested in participating this year, please check out our What’s On section.
Mountain biking is also a fast paced and popular sport and this region offers perfect biking action for all levels of bikers. There are countless routes and tours that will lead you to some of the hottest trails to be found anywhere, e.g. at Alyth Hill and Ballo Hill near Coupar Angus. Mountain bikers can now experience the stunning views of this region by taking their bikes up the mountains at the Glenshee Ski lifts during the summer months.
