Running from the Cairngorms in the north to the Vale of Strathmore in the south and straddling the borders of Perthshire and Angus, Glenisla is a relatively undiscovered gem of a glen.

Part of the glen was once the property of the Abbey at Coupar Angus before passing to the Campbells of Argyll after the Reformation. Other parts were the property of the Ogilvies of Airlie. The two families feuded from the late 16th century, reaching a climax in 1640 with the burning of Forter Castle at the head of the glen.

The castle was rebuilt in the 1990s, complete with its own chapel, and is now a stunning and indeed popular wedding venue.

Just down the road from the Castle is the home of the Glenisla Gathering, one of the most traditional Highland Games in the area, which recently celebrated its 150th anniversary with a visit from Prince Charles, the Duke of Rothesay.
