The Snow Roads scenic route is a 90-mile journey which starts in Blairgowrie in the heart of Perthshire.

Launched in 2018, the route follows the highest public road in Britain through dramatic landscapes first forged in the last Ice Age some 10,000 years ago.

On leaving Blairgowrie, the route heads north through Bridge of Cally, on to Glenshee – the Glen of the Faeries – through the Cairngorm National Park, up to Braemar, Ballater and then over the mountains to Tomintoul and Granton-on-Spey.

The road links the communities along the way through a range of natural and cultural attractions, everything from castles and history to distilleries and art installations. You can visit hidden gems and ‘well-kent’ local secrets, and stop off at various viewpoints and photo-posts along the way for that perfect social media image.

There is also a number of places to eat, drink and stay, as well as various activity providers, located along the way.

The idea behind the Snow Roads is that they are slow roads. The best way to experience them is to take your time exploring the area, enjoying the many views, villages and attractions along the route and getting to know the communities who live and work here.

The route is also a ‘slow road’ due to the geography of the area – the steep hills, tight bends and single tracks that you will encounter. Driving with care and courtesy, and using passing places where necessary, is encouraged.
