East Perthshire is renowned for its traditional musical heritage, much of which was collected and documented by songwriter Hamish Henderson, born in Blairgowrie and recognised as the catalyst for the folk revival in Scotland.

Blairgowrie is also home to the famous Stewarts of Blair, with Sheila Stewart singing for Popes, presidents and royalty over the years. 

The man behind one of Scotland’s unofficial anthems, Caledonia, is also a Blair lad who still lives just a few miles outside the town. Dougie Maclean ran the hugely popular Perthshire Amber music festival for many years, attracting musicians and audiences to the area from across the globe.

As well as east Perthshire’s rich musical heritage, venues across the region also attract theatrical stars and performances throughout the year – everything from touring shows to murder mysteries and pantos from local amateur dramatic groups.
