Scottish food and drink is amongst the best in the world, and Blairgowrie’s reputation as the ‘Berry toon’ puts east Perthshire and its wonderful local produce firmly at the heart of that.
The fertile soil in the glens of Strathmore and Strathardle, the varied weather experienced in the area and the lush rolling hills tended to by local farmers, many of whom grew up on the farms they are now working and who know the land inside out, all help to contribute to the unrivalled quality of the local produce here.
As well as the legendary berries, east Perthshire is renowned for its salmon and trout fishing, its lamb, its potatoes and much, much more.
There are a number of craft distillers in the area, several community gardens and even a community farm at Spittalfield on the outskirts of Blairgowrie, and many shops and restaurants support local producers and growers by selling and using their produce, ensuring that it is as fresh as possible when it arrives on your table – and of course doing their bit to reduce food miles and help save the planet at the same time.
