Arts and Crafts

No matter where you find yourself in Scotland, a castle is never very far away – and east Perthshire is no exception. In the wider Perthshire region there are more than 200 castles, towers and fortified houses.

Castles, Museums and Gardens

Home to over 90,000 species, Scotland has a rich and diverse natural history which attracts thousands of wildlife-enthusiasts each year.
And if you were to draw up a list of the top ten animals to see in the Highlands, well, east Perthshire’s Cateran Country is probably home to most of them.

Nature & Wildlife

Scotland is of course the home of whisky, and whisky is as much a part of our heritage as castles and clans. Indeed, it is known as the ‘water of life’ or uisge in Gaelic. The distilleries of Blair Atholl, Dewar’s of Aberfeldy, Glen Turret – believed to be Scotland’s oldest distillery, Fettercairn and Edradour – Scotland’s smallest traditional distillery – are all close to east Perthshire.

Distilleries

The innovative Cateran Ecomuseum is a museum without walls; all its sites are outside.  Designed to reveal the hidden history of Cateran Country by the community who live here, it tells the story of its people, places and landscapes from pre-history to the present day.
