26th August – Strathardle Highland Gathering and Agricultural Show, Bannerfield, Kirkmichael.

A great day out for all the family featuring heavyweights, tug o’ war, Highland Dancing, piping, livestock, arts and crafts, food marquees, entertainment, public bar and food, children’s rides and much more. The first gathering “of this sort” (as the Dundee Courier recorded at the time) was held at Kirkmichael in a field to the north of the village adjoining the Aldapie Inn on Friday 4th August 1871.

Whilst the Gathering has not been held every year since that date, 2021 marked 150 years of the Strathardle Highland Gathering. Today, the popular event is held on the fourth Saturday of August and continues to attract crowds and competitors from all over the world!
