The historic Glenisla Hotel – a former coaching inn located in the Perthshire and Angus glens – is once again welcoming travellers to the area.
And new owners Isobel and Bryan Webster, together with Gary Norwood who runs the bar and restaurant at the hotel, are keen to ensure that the Glenisla is right at the heart of the local community.
The hotel offers comfortable, modern, clean accommodation and excellent food in the idyllic Angus glen, just a few miles north of Blairgowrie.
It is situated right on the Cateran Trail and is the perfect place for walkers and cyclists to stop off for a night – or two. Fishing for wild brown trout or rainbow trout is available nearby as are opportunities for shooting and deer stalking, and the ski slopes of Glenshee are only half an hour’s drive away.
Full of charm and original character, guests can enjoy the rustic ambience of the whisky and wine bar, sample local real ales or single malts whilst relaxing by a log burner or the open log fire in the snug. Recently modernised, the accommodation – comprising 10 beautifully decorated bedrooms – is traditional whilst mixed with contemporary, offering a unique little hideaway.
Isobel and Bryan, who bought the hotel in 2020 during the global coronavirus pandemic, are keen to get people out of their houses and back into the community by hosting a range of events throughout the year. From Hogmanay to children’s afternoons, Jubilee celebrations to steak and quiz nights, there is something for everyone.
Next up in the calendar is Piston Isla which will take place at the Hotel over the jubilee weekend from Thursday, June 2nd, to Sunday, June 5th. There will be a range of entertainment and activities over the course of the weekend with everything from live music to craft stalls, Highland dancers, children’s activities and a barbecue.
Highlights of the weekend include an afternoon tea on Thursday with music from the coronation era, performances from Wolftrain featuring Ivor Johnston, the man behind the Dundee Blues Festival, and a classic car display from the Glenisla Classic Car Club.
Bryan, who used to be a church minister, added: “I have always loved live music and the way it can bring people together, and want to do something to support live music and bring people together again after lockdowns.
“We have sought to bring people together all our lives and hope that this event will be just the same.”
A field for camping will be available and the couple are hoping that the event could be the start of an annual get together for the local community as well attract visitors to the glen. Isobel said: “Wonderful things can happen when you bring people together in real life that don’t happen on Zoom. “You miss beautiful moments of serendipity and magic if you just stay in your living room. “This glen is remarkably welcoming and it’s just gorgeous, the scenery is beautiful and the drive-through it is stunning.
“We want to be able to share that with more people.”
